As a visual testament to how World War II altered life in America, a young woman, complete with saddle shoes, stacks newly-assembled Garand M1 rifles. The migration of women from the home to the workplace is due in no small part to the War. With many men joining up and getting drafted, it was up to America’s female citizenry to keep the war plants humming 24 hours a day.
