A Doolittle Raiders crew of a U.S. Army Air Forces B-25B revs both engines and awaits the takeoff signal on the flight deck of USS Hornet on the morning of April 18, 1942. At right, the Flight Deck Officer prepares to signal the crew with the launch flag. The carrier flight deck has white guide stripes to assist the pilot during his take-off roll.
