In this original WWII color
photograph from early June 1944, American soldiers and sailors load LSTs and
LCVPs for the short voyage across the English Channel to Normandy. The efficient transport of the masses
of men and material was a logistical feat of tremendous proportions in 1944,
especially with the shortage of landing craft that plagued the Allies at the
time.
