The Mighty "Jug"

The rugged Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was one of the finest American fighter aircraft of World War II. Powered by the mighty Pratt & Whitney R-2800 18-cylinder radial engine, and heavily armed with eight Browning 50-caliber machine guns, the P-47 earned its reputation as a fast, versatile fighter-bomber, and a craft which could absorb tremendous battle damage and still bring its pilot home.  Due to its massive weight of over 7 tons, in a dogfight the Thunderbolt could out-dive most opponents. Then, by utilizing the speed built-up in the dive in addition to the power of the turbo-supercharged radial coupled to the huge broad-paddled, four-bladed propeller, the P-47 could climb back up into the fray, or speed away to safety. Additionally, the P-47J was the first fighter to exceed 500mph in level flight. Republic produced over 15,000 P-47's, more than any other American fighter of World War II.

The finished piece measures 17" x 20". The top mat is medium blue, with an olive drab inner mat upon which the authentic reproduction Army Air Forces Uniform Patch and Pilot's Wings are mounted. When placing your order, please specify your choice of P-47 photograph. If you wish to have an AAF patch other than the 8th AAF patch shown above, please contact us with your preference. Available patches include the 1st AAF thru the 15th AAF, 18th AAF, 20th AAF, Far East AAF, and the standard Army AAF design. Click on the "Uniform Insignia" tab at the top of the screen for patch designs. The frame is solid wood, with a walnut finish (other colors are available…contact us for info.) Please see the "Frame Info" tab for complete information on how we frame our artwork. Item price includes ground shipping to the continental U.S.
