Fighters of the Navy: F4F & F4U

With the outbreak of war on Dec. 7, 1941, the U.S. Navy's front-line fighter was the stubby Grumman F4F Wildcat. Though not as fast as the Zero, the rugged Wildcat scored impressive victories, especially when combat tactics like "the Thach Weave" were employed.

With its bent wings and long nose, one of the most recognizable fighters of the War was the Chance Vought F4U Corsair. Very fast, well-armored and armed with six .50 caliber machine guns, the F4U was a superb fighter. This F4U, showing 16 victories, belongs to Lt. Ira Kepford of the Jolly Rogers (VF-17).

The finished piece measures 12 3/4" x 25 1/2". It is matted in blue-gray. The frame is Gunmetal (other colors are available. Contact us for info). Please see the "Frame Info" tab for complete information on how we frame our artwork. Item price includes ground shipping to the continental U.S.
