Douglas SBD Dauntless In Flight
Originally developed as an attack bomber for the U.S. Army, the Douglas SBD Dauntless dive bomber earned its laurels as the Navy's primary dive bomber in World War Two. The Battle of Midway in June, 1942, demonstrated the effectiveness of the Dauntless as four fleet carriers of the Japanese Navy were sunk after SBD attacks, turning the tide in the Pacific War.
SBD's were also employed as scout planes. The SBD at left has been modified with electronic equipment under wing. At right, a formation of early production SBD-1's begin peeling off into dives.
The finished piece measures 12 3/4" x 25 1/2". It is matted in blue-gray. The frame is Gunmetal (other colors are available. Contact us for info). Please see the "Frame Info" tab for complete information on how we frame our artwork. Item price includes ground shipping to the continental U.S.
