B-17 Nose Art

A now-famous phenomenon of World War Two, U.S. Aircrews, seeking to personalize the aircraft assigned to them, painted anything from names to cartoon characters to pin-up girls on their planes.  The practice became known as "Nose Art." At left is the B-17E "Goonie." A veteran of the Pacific Theater, the markings on the side of the nose signify 15 bombing missions, 7 Japanese planes shot down by the B-17's gunners, and participation in the Battle of Midway. At right, Sgt. Pearson Wright of Gibson, MS., admires the nose art of a derelict B-17F near warton, England. March 23, 1943.

The finished piece measures 12 3/4" x 25 1/2". It is matted in blue-gray. The frame is Gunmetal (other colors are available. Contact us for info). Please see the "Frame Info" tab for complete information on how we frame our artwork. Item price includes ground shipping to the continental U.S.
